Guinean opposition boycotts the Agreement Monitoring Committee.

In Guinea Conakry, the Collective of the political parties of the opposition suspends its participation in the work of the monitoring Committee. This committee is responsible for the implementation of the inter-Guinean political agreement of October 12th. The group, led by the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG), protests against what he calls the “violation” of the agreement by the presidential camp. In the background, disagreement over the new electoral code that was not adopted by the deputies, which calls into question the holding of the local and communal elections scheduled, initially, next month.
On Wednesday 4 January, the budgetary session of the National Assembly was closed without the new electoral code being examined in plenary and even less adopted. For the opposition, it is a blatant violation of the October 12 agreement, a way to torpedo it.
“Until now, no provision has yet been implemented. They are always fleeing, procrastination and hesitation. The local elections, for which we have been fighting for years and years, are indefinitely postponed. In the meantime, communities are run by people who are appointed by the government and who interfere in the electoral process. Local elected representatives are simply nominees who have no legitimacy to speak on behalf of the populations they are supposed to represent, “Aboubacar Sylla, spokesman for the opposition party group, told RFI.
To the opposition who denounces the bad faith of the presidential camp which signs an agreement on the one hand but raises new debates on the other, the majority replies that it is precisely in its role.
“Dialogue does not deprive Members of the right to debate a text submitted to them. We proposed a mixed ballot, at the level of the municipalities, and that is what they did not appreciate, “said Damaro Camara, chairman of the parliamentary group of the presidential majority.
An extraordinary session of the National Assembly could be convened in February.
